If you design knitting patterns or teach knitting techniques and would like to publish your work, read on to discover the different ways you can publish, the advantages and disadvantages of each option, and essential advice about copyrights and how to use them.

Being a published designer or author is great for your credibility, will give you publicity and allow your work to be seen by a much wider audience. But before you rush in and write your book, you should first do some research and find out more about your market and whether your product or ideas will actually sell.

First of all, you need to think about who your target market is. Will it be a broad range of knitters or crocheters? Or is it a small niche group? Are they beginners or advanced? Is the content of your book in fashion at the moment?

Broad appeal knitting books are usually about knitting basics, how to knit, how to solve problems, and common knitting or crochet patterns. Even though they are aimed at a broad market, the most popular of these books still have something unique about them, or some kind of spin to make them interesting. Books aimed at niche markets are great because they have the potential to come into fashion and sell very well.

To research the market, look on the big book-selling sites like Amazon, where you can see what the most popular books are in your category. Some of the best-selling pattern books at the moment are books about sock patterns, knitted or crocheted decorations, warm weather knitting and solutions for knitting problems. By looking through these lists, you may also be able to find gaps in the market that you can fill.

When you have decided on your topic and created your content, you have three main choices for how to publish, advertise and sell your work:

One option is to use a publishing company to publish your book. There are obviously a huge number of publishers around the world, some very large with wide distribution networks, others smaller and perhaps more suitable for niche publications. The advantage of using a publishing company is that they will copyright, edit, print and distribute your book for you. Some publishing companies specialize in craft books, which means they will have more experience with your style of book. They will have experienced editors to give feedback and ideas for improvement.

If you use a large publishing company, your knitting book will be more widely distributed, much quicker than you could do yourself. It will be advertised in catalogs, and most publishers have reps that will promote and sell your book to stores. The downside is that you will lose much of your control over the book, as well as the profits.

Another option is to self-publish your knitting or crochet book using an online publishing service like lulu.com. By publishing your book in this way, you will retain more control over how your knitting book is presented and printed, where it is sold and how it is promoted, as well as the copyrights.

There are new copyrights called “Creative Commons” that are not as restrictive and allow people to share your patterns more freely, use them to inspire other work, or in knitting classes. This free use will encourage your designs to be distributed more widely and get your name as a designer more commonly known.

When you self publish your knitting book, you will get more of the profits. Most self-publishing services let you to print to order which means lower start-up costs.

However, you won’t get the same book-store distribution as with an offline publisher. And you will be responsible for most of the promotion yourself.

A third option is to publish your knitting book online as an E-Book. This would be a good option if you have an existing website, or you can find sites that would be willing to promote your book. If you don’t want to spend much on start-up, then this is a great way to test your market for very little investment.

You could also list your book or patterns with one of the many online pattern sellers. This way you can control the copyright and distribution of each of your designs individually.

In terms of knitting pattern copyright, there are several options available. All unique patterns are automatically protected under copyright law in most countries, so all you need to do is write “Copyright” and the year of creation, and your name. eg. Copyright 2009 Liz Raad. You can add the phrase “all rights reserved” if you don’t want your patterns used for anything other than personal use. Or you can add specific exceptions like “not to be used for commercial gain”.

However, you may have noticed that the world (especially the online world) is changing to a much more free approach to sharing information and ideas. If you free up your copyrights and use a creative commons copyright as mentioned above, your designs will be shared, and reach a far wider audience than if you severely restrict their use. Your income as a designer comes from sales of patterns or books, and lots of sales are made from personal recommendations, so the more people who know about you the better!

Whichever option you decide on, if you want to make money knitting then publishing your knitting book you will get greater exposure for your designs, and your name will become more widely known. Becoming a published knitting designer or author will provide you with more credibility, and might even bring new opportunities in your knitting design career.

Amazon book sales are very important to most authors and publishers, and there are several ways to boost your book’s visibility on Amazon.com. Customers on Amazon typically search for books by author, title, or keyword. Like search engines, Amazon uses several criteria in deciding which products to display on the search results page and in what order to display them. Popularity (the number of Amazon book sales already made) and how well the book matches the keywords are major factors in determining the results of keyword searches.

The more Amazon book sales you generate, the more books you will sell in the future, because your book will appear higher in the search results when customers search by your keywords. In addition, many customers assume that the best-selling book must be the best one on the topic.

One way to increase your Amazon book sales, and therefore your search results placement, is to direct all of your online book orders to Amazon, rather than offering several options on your website.

It’s also important to make sure your book matches popular search terms entered by customers. If your book is not yet published, you can add important keywords to the book’s title and subtitle. Some publishers use long subtitles in order to pack in as many keywords as possible.

To capitalize on searches for keywords not contained in the title, enter important keywords into Amazon’s Search Tag feature. On your book’s product page on Amazon, scroll down to the section titled “Tags Customers Associate with This Product.” Enter your keyword tag in the small box provided and click the “Add” button.

You can’t use keywords that already appear in Amazon’s search function, such as the book title or author name. Word order matters, so create different search tags with variations on your most important keywords.

You can personally submit up to ten search terms for your book. If you have additional search terms to enter, ask a colleague to enter some for you. You can also ask colleagues to “vote” for the existing tags on the page by clicking the check box next to the tags.

Another way to increase your “popularity” on Amazon is do a virtual book tour or an “Amazon best-seller campaign,” designed to push up your Amazon sales rank by generating a large number of orders on a single day.

There are a number of other ways to promote your book on Amazon, including getting lots of good Amazon reviews, writing reviews of other related books, participating in the Look Inside program, enhancing your book description, participating in Amazon forums for your book’s topic, and creating Listmania lists and So You’d Like To guides.

Selling books online can be fun and profitable. Selling books online is a great home-based business. There are a few frustrating aspects to it though. The downsides of selling books online mostly have to do with customer service, the markets, and seller mistakes.

Here are my Top Five Reasons Why Selling Books Online Can be NO Fun

1. Customers – Please read the book description before buying it. It drives me nuts when a customer gets a book and wants a refund or threatens negative feedback because the dust jacket of the book is torn (even though it said so in the item description).

2. Customers – please stop sending me the “How much for shipping to Canada” (or whatever country) email when the book is listed as not eligible for international shipping. I get it – you didn’t read the item description. This is more of a pet peeve then a real frustration.

3. Alibris – Please give me my money more than once a month. I would appreciate the ability to get it transferred to my account whenever I want – like Amazon allows.

4. Penny Sellers. Penny sellers on Amazon attempt to make a dime or two n each book they sell. They also drive the prices of books down. I am not sure how they survive but they are the bane of booksellers on Amazon

5. Library Sales – people these sales are not rugby scrums. If someone dropped $10 in front of you would you push me and grab the money and quickly stuff in your pocket? Likely not but somehow this behavior is OK when going for a $10 book. Library sales are often in cramped basements. You have to arrive hours early, pay to get in and then rush to get books and hope you do not have somebody’s scanner blind you with their laser

The above list is not enough to make selling books online a “tough” business. Despite any frustrations I do love selling books online. The above list is mostly tongue-in-cheek (except for the penny sellers) and could be tripled in size as I continue to nit-pick.

Regardless, I love selling books on Amazon.

First off, let me tell you that I am a published author of fiction and non-fiction.

I have definitely been at the bottom, looking up at the fantastically high summit of actually getting a book published by a real publisher, let alone getting anyone to buy a copy of my book. So I am going to pass on some hard-won tips that will get you on your way to being published, and making the book a best-seller.

What is marketing?

Marketing is when you put the beer and the diapers side-by-side on Friday evenings, in time for the men who come in to your store after work, looking for beer and diapers. And you put a few items on special, clustered by the beer and diapers, so they can’t be missed: The best of your best selling snack items for men, kids and wives, too.

So how do you market a book?

1) Your book better be really good.

What does this mean?

That you are a good writer, and you write well, and what you write is compelling.

2) If it is fiction, the story has got to reach inside the reader and touch true feelings. My best advice is write right from your own guts. Bring us inside the experience. What does it feel like, taste like, touch like, how did it sound, where is it? All these questions have to be answered in your writing.

3) If it is non-fiction, tell me the story. Use the 5W’s: who, what, where, when, why.

4) Have a beginning, and put in the context of the whole.

5) Have a middle part where you get going and get into the meat. Describe what the meat tastes like to me, and what it smells like, too. Was it hot meat? Yes? Well tell me about the heat of the meat.

6) Write about what YOU are interested in, too. Tell me about your experiences doing, seeing and being with what turns you on. If you didn’t like something to do with it, bring me inside the negative, flesh it out.

Example: “I didn’t like the film. It sucked big time.”

No, not enough. Give me more!

Example: “The film is vastly stupid and reaches new lows of self-indulgent self-referencing.”

No, still not there yet.

Tell me WHY it is stupid, and how it gets into the new lows.

Example: “This film has dialogue that amounts to grunts and groans, without one word that makes any sense. I watched all the characters scratch themselves for 3 hours. Yes, that was the theme of the entire film. If you like to watch people scratch themselves, and grunt and groan, this will be your epic film experience. The rest of you, do yourself a favour and give this so-called art indulgence a very wide berth.”

6) Write a great wrap up, your conclusion, with a cliff-hanger to entice us back for the next in the series, or a place where I can be satisfied that all the villains are existentially and ironically punished, and the heroes are restored to or raised up to their proper rewards.

7) Even if the ending is black and everyone dies, give it to me with style.

8) If your style is terse and clipped and to the point, make the words like daggers that pierce my cold, cold heart.

9) What is the title of your book? “Cancer Face”, or, “The Love Genius”, or, “Kraft Dinner Zombie.” Whatever it is, it is a bit like naming your rock band. Or a new political party.

Okay, so you have a great book. Now you have to find the publisher. And to begin with, this might end up being you. Yes, the ultimate publisher of your work could be You Incorporated.

There are many self-publishing options to explore. Do a search on the internet and take your time investigating. I am hesitant to mention any specific options, lest my article is rejected.

I do have some specific suggestions for you to sell your own self-published book:

1) Get some copies and go door-to-door. I have done this, and you will be very surprised at how many books you will sell using this method.

2) Prepare yourself for NO. The word NO is a big barrier for most of us, especially when it is linked to something as precious as our own work. Learn to take the NO for what it really is.

3) The NO is a code word for, “Not right now, thank you very much.” It is also really good news, too, because it means you are that much closer to your next, “YES, thank you, sure, I’ll buy a book from you.”

4) Set up a regular routine of going out and selling your book door-to-door, and pick the times when people are more likely to be home, respecting the best times NOT to ring that doorbell, or knock on that door. Use good common sense. After 9 P.M. is NOT a good idea.

5) Create a nice, tasty door-knocker to leave behind, with directions to get to your website, or sales page with your publisher-partner.

6) Which brings us to you selecting a good website provider, and the domain name for your dot com, and the website host. All of this requires that you take your time and build each little bit carefully and thoughtfully.

7) Create above-the-crowd press releases, and begin to contact everything that moves and doesn’t move in the world of the media, and let them know about your book.

8) Prepare some cool videos about your book, and post them on every site on the internet where you can post videos.

9) Begin to back-link everything that you are doing in the way that is a real and legitimate back link.

10) Create a fan page. Obviously I am going to suggest Facebook, and all the other social media you can shake your mouse at.

Whew! I have a lot more to write about on this subject, so I know I will come back and do some more articles on how to promote your book. It is daunting, for sure. Hey, just writing a book to completion, and then rewriting your book until it is a polished piece of prose, that is a major accomplishment. It almost is unfair that a great artist like you has to get sweaty with even more work. You want your marketing to be a success, so take the time. You can count on it taking as much time as it took to write your book, maybe longer.

There are many ways to get quality free ebooks, it’s just a matter of finding the right places. So here’s a strategy for finding the best websites for you. Firstly try the Kindle store which has the largest free ebooks selection. You go to Amazon and then go to the kindle store. Type in free books in the search box and you should get a choice of three options. Choose the free kindle book option and then choose the free kindle book list and you will get a list of all the free titles that are available. The kindle store has a wide range of titles some are new and some are not as new. They do have fiction as well as non fiction from best selling authors so there’s definitely plenty of books to read. You can read those free books even if you don’t have a kindle by downloading the free kindle app for your P.C. If your curious about ebooks and would like to give it a try this is the best place to start because it’s completely free. One note of caution though it won’t give you the experience of reading on a ereader device like the kindle but it will help you become familiar with them. You can do the same with Barnes & Noble by going to their website and downloading their free app. Then click ebooks and go to the left sidebar under Customer Favorites and click free ebooks.

There’s also literally millions of free ebooks available that are part of the public domain with expired copyrights. They’re mostly classics from famous authors and if that’s what your looking for you will have enough books to keep you busy for the rest of your life. If you’re a student this will be extremely valuable for you because you can conduct research from many different sources without having to lug tons of books around with you. The best place to start with would be project Gutenberg because they have the biggest selection available. You can search by title or by author and you have a choice of what type of format you wish to read them in. For the kindle you simply choose the kindle format and if you choose to read on your P.C. you can select html and read it in your web browser. For the nook and most other reading devices that support the epub format you have to choose the epub format. If your having trouble with this particular format you can use a software to change it over to pdf format which is supported by most devices (the only kindle that supports pdf’s is the kindle DX). You can Google free ebooks and the first five websites to come up are usually the best places to go like Free-ebooks.net and getfreeebooks.com to name a few.

There are dozens of other websites that offer free ebooks that are classics the majority of them are in the pdf format so they should work well with most devices. If you are using any of the Apple devices such as the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch you have by far the largest selection. You have access to the free ebooks from the ibookstore and you have access to the free ebooks from the kindle store through the free kindle app for the iPad and iPhone. The same goes for the free ebooks from Barnes & Noble through their free apps for the nook as well as the free app for borders gives you access to their free ebooks for the kobo ereader.

Well in short whichever device you own there’s plenty of free ebooks available to keep you busy for a long time. So just sit back kick off your shoes and start reading.

Everyone has a unique story to tell. From explaining business processes to revealing our personal history, we all have a natural desire to share our experiences with the world. As a result, bookstore shelves are packed with numerous titles that promise to entertain, enlighten, and educate readers.

Perhaps, then, the old saying that “everyone has at least one book in them” is true. If so, how do you know whether your current idea really is book worthy or if it needs some fine-tuning to have maximum marketability?

Before you put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), put your book idea to the test. Use the following questions as a way to hone your idea’s development and create a manuscript destined for the best-seller list.

Can you state your book’s purpose in 10 words or less?

Many new authors face the challenge of wanting to give too much information at once. Instead of focusing on one specific idea, they try to wrap multiple concepts into one book. This approach not only makes it difficult to organize your book, but it also overwhelms your readers.

With any good book, you can state the book’s specific purpose in 10 words or less. Realize that your purpose is not the same as your theme or plot. The book’s purpose is what you specifically want the reader to do or think as a result of reading your book. Now, a statement such as “to live a better life” or “to run a better business” is not specific. A purpose is not a generalization. It’s a specific action that you motivate the reader to embark upon.

For example, if you’re writing a business book, your purpose should be to help your readers improve one specific business function, such as its marketing efforts, its customer service, its project management, etc. Your purpose should not be “to teach business executives how to create better marketing materials, deliver improved customer service, establish long-term customer relations, increase employee retention, and locate the best new talent.” That’s simply too much for one book to cover. Keep your purpose specific so you can deliver targeted and useful information.

Does your book have a specific audience?

While you certainly want a large audience to market your book to, you also want an audience that’s targeted to your topic. Simply stating that your audience is “business people” or “women” or “the general public” is not a targeted audience. Why? Not all business people have the same concerns, not all women are interested in the same topics, and not everyone in the general public will be able to identify with your ideas.

When you narrow your audience to include those with a specific tie to your theme or who fit a certain demographic, you gain a marketing edge that can position your book more effectively. So instead of stating that your audience is “business people,” perhaps you can narrow it down to “company owners,” “middle management,” or “entrepreneurs.” Rather than target the broad category of “women,” you’d have better sales by focusing on “women over age 50,” “working moms,” or “single women under age 35.” All these categories consist of a large number of people, yet they are narrow enough so you can streamline your message.

Are you saying something new?

If you want people to invest the time and money to read your book, you have to tell them something new. Too many authors attempt to reword or rehash old ideas that others have stated over and over. While you should use other people’s works to substantiate claims or add credibility to your message, make sure your central idea is fresh and unique.

How can you make sure your approach is new? Incorporate the results of a survey you personally conducted. Include case studies from your own business or life. Interview people who can contribute facts and information. Add elements of yourself to punctuate your message. This is your book, so tell your story or stance on an issue.

Many authors are afraid to state a new opinion on a topic that others have covered. They think they may turn people off or offend. Remember that people like controversy, so if your book can stir things up and make people think twice about something, you’ll have a greater chance of creating a buzz about your book.

Are your writing skills up to par?

You could have the best idea in the world, but if your text is filled with errors, is poorly organized, or is difficult to understand, no one will want to read it. Before you write too much of your book, brush up on your writing skills by attending a writing class, studying a writing guide, or hiring a writing coach to help you correct your writing challenges. Also, educate yourself on what writing style appeals to your audience, and then strive to imitate that style. Gear your writing to your intended audience as much as possible.

If you’re unsure whether your writing skills make the grade, consult with a professional editor or ghostwriter who can rework your writing and bring it up to publishing standards. Don’t let poor writing skills ruin your best-selling idea.

Start Writing Now

Writing a book is no small undertaking. When you can answer “yes” to each of the above questions, you’ll be on your way to transforming your idea into a publishable piece of work. Take the time to nurture and develop your idea before you start writing so you can be sure to create the best book possible. A little pre-planning and foresight is all it takes to give your book the most market appeal.

CBSE textbooks are for the Central Board of Secondary Education under which many private and public schools in India fall. Each year, the board conducts 10 and 10 + 2 exams which determine the academic life and career of students. On the basis of these exams, 10th standard students can gain admission to high schools while high school kids can enter colleges for studying a specific subject. If you are trying to buy CBSE Books Cheap, here are 5 tips that will help you.

Register with membership sites

The majority of web-based book stores offer membership to buyers. Those who become members are given special perks and advantages through free shipping, discounts or rewards. As a member, you can also sign up to get free alerts sent as mails to your inbox. You can stay updated about whether you can get deals on the books that you require.

Buy from used book stores

Many students prefer to sell off their books after their term is over, or if they drop mid-term during their academic session. These books land up in used book stores, and can be purchased at lower costs. A lot of books are sold in pristine condition while some come with slight tears or other problems, but still in readable and usable condition. Most used book stores put up books for sale after proper quality check.

Buy from discount book stores

You can also consider buying CBSE NCERT Books online from discount book stores. These consist of both used and new best-selling books, and are some stores are ready to offer up to 80% discounts. There are discounts offered over bulk orders. Many of the stores based online even offer free shipping to international customers. These do not have the overhead expenses associated with brick and mortar bookstores, which allows the bookstores to offer reduced rates, discount codes, reward programs and promotional offers to customers.

Look for promo codes

A lot of stores offer promo codes or discount coupons online, which help reduce prices by a significant measure. These are able to lower your overall purchase costs over the total number books that you buy. You have to simply type the jumble of text and numerals into the box in the checkout page, in order to avail the discount.

Go for eBooks

These days, many students are choosing eBooks over printed books due to the convenience and cost savings. E-books are digital books in PDF format which can be read in smartphones, tablets and other digital devices. These come at a lower cost, due to the fact that the cost of manufacturing them is minimal. You can get everything in the eBook format – from CBSE mathematics books to literature books. E-books are removing the need for students to carry bulky books to school, and these can be downloaded to digital devices and carried to schools very easily. No need to carry a bag anymore. There is also the benefit that this makes books available instantly, without waiting for days for their arrival.

High unemployment and a tough job market are causing stress across the nation. Are you a job seeker wondering how you will land your next job, and whether it will be something that you will enjoy doing long-term?

A job transition doesn’t have to be stressful, when you take the time to understand your dreams and goals, develop a plan, and stick with it for ultimate success. Not long ago, I had the opportunity of an exclusive interview with Jay Block, and his genuine concern for helping others was as evident in the interview as he writes about in this book:

“101 Best Ways to Land a Job in Troubled Time,” by Jay Block, McGraw-Hill Publications, New York, New York, (2010), pp. 194, ISBN: 978-0-07166328-1.

The material in this book, written by best-selling author, Jay Block, is groundbreaking during this time of high unemployment during a tough job market. Jay interviewed and researched with experts across the nation when writing this book; and he discovered that most of what we know in the area of resumes and job search methods is ineffective and damages the future aspirations of job seekers!

He dedicates the book to all job seekers who have not given up on their dreams or settled for less than they can be; and inside the book he explains how to dream and achieve those dreams in their entire life, not just their career.

Jay’s passion for really wanting to help people comes out clearly in this book, where he gives personal examples of the processes he completed in similar situations. The content is written to be informational as well as motivational, which is not something usually found in a career-transition book.

These strategic processes are outlined in five chapters of the book, in addition to his Introduction, which focuses on How Beliefs Affect Outcome.

The first chapter, Learning How to Ride the Emotional Roller-Coaster, helps job candidates recognize and manage their fears and emotions when adversity affects their world. Jay outlines ten principles for successfully obtaining a new job in troubled economies and four emotional channeling techniques to conquer the fearful, negative thoughts that job seekers typically have.

Other chapters address goal definition, writing and using the correct self-marketing tools, creating a meticulous action plan, and actually taking action.

Jay takes time to show examples of the correct marketing tools needed for today’s job transition, which in and of itself makes the book valuable for a job seeker at any level. He also explains why a “chronological obituary” resume is detrimental during a job transition, and gives examples of resumes that are successful in today’s economy.

I first heard of this book sometime in 2012 when my fifteen year old daughter announced that it was all the talk at her private secondary girls’ school in Oxford. It seems that the book had become unofficial compulsory reading for fifth and sixth formers and in due course a copy came home. I had often complained that my daughter didn’t read enough, she confined herself mainly to reading compelled by her studies, but this book was compelled too, by peer pressure. In due course she announced that she had finished the book and I asked how she found it. It was pronounced to be, ‘not at all suitable for you, Dad, and rather badly written.

That was three years ago, and it seems that by that time the book had already broken many best seller records. I discovered that as early as 1 August 2012, Amazon UK had announced that it had sold more copies of Fifty Shades of Grey than it had the entire Harry Potter series combined, making E. L. James its best-selling author, replacing J. K. Rowling. My daughter had never shown any interest in the Harry Potter series, and none of these volumes graced our bookshelves, so the temporary intrusion of Fifty Shades of Grey represented her first step into what might be called popular fiction crafted for a mass market.

With my curiosity roused I looked for literary reviews of the book and discovered that its erotic nature had led to it being dubbed ‘Mommy Porn’ because it was supposed to be most popular with married women over thirty. However it was also said to be popular among teenage girls and college students, a fact I could confirm from my daughter’s reports. I also learned that the book’s popularity had excited renewed interest in erotic literature, leading to the republication of past best sellers of this genre. However, I have no knowledge of any lingering interest developing at my daughter’s school, the Fifty Shades of Grey having seemingly cast its fleeting shadow and passed on in a clear blue sky.

Not having read the book I cannot write a review, but many literary critics have reported that the Fifty Shades of Grey is badly written and has a ‘puny plot.’ Sir Salman Rushdie is reported to have said that he had never seen anything so badly written that got published. So it seems that my daughter is in good company in her judgement of the writing. This provokes the question: why is the book so popular? Perhaps I should go back to my own schooldays to find the answer. In the 1950s it was D H Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover that was being condemned as obscene, and plain covered copies were going the rounds. Then, as now, I suspect, the real interest was confined to a few well-thumbed pages.

How would you like to have countless people clamoring for your books and willing to visit your Web site to buy them?

Most entrepreneurs wait until their Web site is designed before they think about marketing their products on it. What a shame!

When someone asks you about your book, maybe you’ve said, “My book is about….” You mention the features such as tips in a book or your story. Your story may be too long and bore your prospective readers. These mistakes will turn your prospective buyer off. What they want is a quick billboard visual of your book–your 30-60 second “tell and sell.”

Without your “30 Second Tell and Sell” that strongly states the main benefit, audience, and what makes your product unique, you will bore your visitor and lose that attention you need to entice him or her to take out their wallets and pay you on the spot.

Your “tell and sell” gives your book audience a reason to buy. The “Tell and Sell” is the shortest sales letter you will write. You can also use this one to two-sentence blurb at any business meeting or appointment where you only have a few seconds to impress. Speakers refer to it as an “elevator speech.”

It’s Not the Book, It’s the Hook!

It’s best to know your sizzling title, unique selling points, preferred audience and benefits before you put words to paper, before you even write a single chapter. But, even if your book is already out, you can still motivate endless book sales with your “tell and sell.” Be prepared to write five to seven versions until the best one emerges. And, remember your “tell and sell” must be clear, compact, compelling and commercial.

How to Build your Bullet Proof Tell and Sell

1. List your title. For instance, “Write Your EBook or Other Short Book–Fast!”

2. Add your major audience and benefits after you say the title.

Example: “Write your eBook…” offers authors and small business people short cuts to design and market your top selling book so you can share your unique useful message with the world, become known as the savvy expert, and make consistent, ongoing top money each month.

3. Add a sound bit that will help people connect easily with your book. Compare your book to a famous one. Call it a companion piece to a famous author’s top title. Your potential buyer will want your book because it is in good company.

“Write your eBook” picks up where Dan Poynter’s “Self Publishing Manual” leaves off. It’s the nuts and bolts you need to market and design and fast-forward write a book that sells.

4. Put them all together, they spell your own “tell and sell” that you memorize with enthusiasm and share with everyone next time someone asks you, “What’s your book about?”

Final example: “Write your eBook or Other Short Book–Fast!” offers authors and small business people like you short cuts to design and market your top selling book so you can share your unique useful message with the world, become known as the savvy expert, and make ongoing top money each month. Recommended by Dan Poynter, it picks up where his “Self Publishing Manual” left off.

The Big Benefits of Owning your “tell and sell”

When you know your “tell and sell” before you write your book, you’ll be marketing while you write. You will give your audience so much more. Your book will be much improved because you will write more organized and focused copy making it easy for your buyer to understand. Every chapter will prove your “tell and sell.” You will also write faster, because with focus, you’ll need far less edits and rewrites.

Knowing benefits sell, you now can be ready when you meet anyone anywhere with your book’s “tell and sell.”

“The Kindle Publishing Bible: How To Sell More Kindle Ebooks On Amazon” by Tom Corson-Knowles is one of the many new books on how to sell and make money on Kindle. I’ve read a few of these, from terrible to decent. I but this book in the decent category. I don’t know if I’d really call it a “Bible” because when I think of Bibles I think of big complete books that cover just about everything. I don’t think this book fits that bill. However, I do think the book provides some very good advice and strategies for those wanting to publish on amazon for Kindle readers. Especially if you are just starting out. It won’t be the only book you’ll want to read to help you with this, but it is not a bad one to include in your writing for Kindle library.

I didn’t care for the secretiveness of the “Elite Kindle Society” or the “ethical” parts in the first part titled “Why I Wrote This Book” that much. Just seemed like marketing ploy. But, hey, I understand that, so it was not that big a deal.

The rest of the book is divided into eleven chapters. I feel these give some very good advice. Some of which I’d read or heard elsewhere, and some that I hadn’t. I do plan on reading this book again and using it as a reference as I write more and make my books available to Kindle readers.

The topics the author covers in the chapters are: How To Chose Your Best-Selling Book Title; How To Master Kindle Categories To Sell More Books; How To Sell More Books Using The Right Keywords and Tags; Designing A Best-Selling Book Cover; Writing Your Book Description; how To Get More Reviews (The Ethical Way) And How To Handle Bad Reviews; Calculating Kindle Sales Estimates; What You Need To Know About International Kindle Sales; Writing More Books, A Guaranteed Way To Sell More Kindle Books!; KDP Free Promotion Launch Formula; and Writing Productivity Tips, Strategies and Resources.

As you can see, the author covers a number of topics related to selling Kindle books. Some of the information is pretty basic, but other tips are things you won’t know unless someone who’s done it tells you. I’ve been sent a number of books on making money selling Kindle books and a number of them were so terrible that I just deleted the file and told the person I couldn’t write a review. When Corson-Knowles asked to send me a review copy of this one, I figured why not. I’m glad he did, because as you can see, this book did contain some good stuff and didn’t go straight to my trash.

At the end, he even provides a link to his YouTube channel and some motivational videos. He also lists his other books, so he is doing what he writes about. I’d recommend this book to anyone wanting to get into writing for the Kindle market, especially if you are new to the game.

Many authors/writers have discovered the power and potential of the Amazon Kindle marketplace for selling their books.

For eBooks priced from $0.99 to $2.98, and eBooks priced at $10.00 or more, Amazon pays 35% in royalties on all products sold. For eBooks priced between $2.99 and $9.99, Amazon pays royalties equal to 70% on all products sold.

Without a doubt, some book authors are making an absolute killing by self-publishing their books on Amazon. A good friend of mine is making half a million a year with her books on the Kindle platform.

It is possible to make a nice living selling nonfiction on Amazon, but the people collecting the largest royalty checks are those who are writing fiction.

Publishing Essentials

Amazon Kindle is an attractive place to publish books, because absolutely anyone who is willing to set up a Kindle Digital Publishing account can upload a manuscript and start selling their books within 24 hours in most cases.

Amazon is also the largest “buyer search engine” on the Internet, meaning that the people using Amazon’s search tool are looking for products to purchase.

When you load your book to the Amazon website, there are a few key pieces of information you will need to include with your book upload:

Must be logged into an Amazon Account;

Title;

Author (Pen Names are acceptable);

Description;

Categories;

Keywords;

Description;

Image representing Book Cover;

Book Manuscript;

Prices;

Choose optional Amazon promotional programs.

Book Marketing Essentials

In most cases, the primary marketing tools you need are six items:

Title that will catch the shopper’s attention;

Book Cover that assures the shopper that this book will give them what they want;

Category choices that will allow it to be found by its target audience;

Keywords that could help people using the search function find the book;

Book Description that sells the book to the person looking at the book;

A respectable and acceptable Price.

Common Misconception About Book Marketing in General

Many people believe that all they need to do is to create a book and upload it to Amazon, in order to start making money. In part, this is true.

Once the book is uploaded and approved by Amazon, then you can start making sales.

However, your book marketing essentials need to be solid, in order for you to actually find buyers.

You must have an interesting book title.

You must have a book cover that appeals to the reader. The big thing here is that you want your book cover to look like it was professionally designed, rather than designed by your junior high school child or grandchild.

Most important, you must have a compelling book description. The title and cover will get people to open your sales page, but it is your description that will sell the book for you.

It is sad, but most self-published authors will spend several months writing their book and less than ten minutes crafting their book description. Yet, future buyers are looking to the book description to convince them whether they should or should not purchase your book.

If the description stinks, then sales will stink too.

If you construct a compelling description, you could very well find your book on the best sellers list.

Reality Check About Selling Books on Amazon

People tell me all the time that they don’t need to worry about marketing their books, because Amazon will do all of their marketing for them.

Here is what you need to understand about Amazon marketing your books for you.

Yes, Amazon wants to sell more products, so they will tell their customers about your books.

But here is the thing… Amazon’s internal marketing machine is completely driven by computer algorithm. An algorithm is a computer program that seeks out products to share with their customers.

Amazon’s computer algorithms are designed to find strong selling products and to promote those top-selling items to their customers.

Amazon isn’t going to push a product that has only sold ten copies in the last month. Instead, it is going to push products that are currently selling hundreds of units a day, because they are trying to maximize the number of products they can sell. They are not going to promote a product that has lukewarm sales.

If you want to sell lots of books on Amazon, you should refrain from burying your head in the sand.

In order to get Amazon to market your books for you, you have to help your book by getting its sales started on good footing.

You can of course try the marketing approach that most authors take — upload and pray.

Or, you can invest a little time or money to get your sales rolling, so that the Amazon sales algorithm can find your book and promote it to their customers.

You can advertise your book for free in a number of Facebook groups, on Twitter, or on your own blog. You don’t have a blog? Why not?

Or, you can spend a little money and advertise your book on a site like Bookbub or any of the websites shown here.

You Are In The Driver’s Seat

As a self-published book author, you are not only your own publisher, but you are also your own marketing team.

All you really need to do is to grease the wheels, so that Amazon’s internal sales algorithm can find your book and tell their customers about it.

Once Amazon has found your book, then Amazon will do all of your book marketing for you.

Until you can get your sales moving forward, the only hope that your book will have for good sales is one — pray hard.

When a homeowner decides, he is ready and willing to sell his home, he must examine, using the utmost degree, of objective introspective, why he has decided to do so, and what he wants to achieve/ accomplish (his personal objectives). In my, over a decade, as a Real Estate Licensed Salesperson, in the State of New York, I have determined, there are a wide variety of reasons, but, in the vast majority of instance, these fall into 4 specific categories. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to review, examine and consider, 4 objectives of most home sellers.

1. Best possible price: Obviously, when one sells his house, he hopes to receive the highest, best possible, price, for it! However, to do so, requires a strategy and focus, and the realization and recognition, the listing and selling prices, might be considerably different entities, in certain instances. These sellers should have a thorough discussion with their real estate professional, to come to a meeting of the minds, to determine what price to list, the house at, and the reasoning. strategic purposes. Depending on many factors, setting the price, right/ correctly, from the start, generally, garners the best price. This does not mean, merely setting a high price, because there are many instances, where doing so, may do harm, to the final result. Smart homeowners have a complete discussion, before they proceed!

2. Shortest period of time: There’s many reasons, getting the home sold, in a relatively short period of time, is beneficial to a homeowner. Studies indicate, in the vast majority of cases, the best, selling price, is generally offered, in the first few weeks, because, that is when, it is perceived, the house is hot! Many potential buyers tend to wonder, if a house is great, why didn’t it sell, sooner! Generally, this occurs, when the listing price is higher than it should be! In addition, one should understand the opportunity – cost of money, because a homeowner must continue paying the costs associated with the house, until it closes (including taxes, utilities, mortgage payments, upkeep, etc). One should also understand the longer the process lingers, the greater, the stresses and inconveniences!

3. Best terms: Often, price is not the only factor involved. Some buyers might put more money down, while others might be willing to waive contingencies, such as for receiving a mortgage, etc. The fewer the contingencies, the less might go wrong!

4. Least hassle: When homeowner and agent, have a complete conversation, and share strategy and process ideas and considerations, there will generally be less hassle. Understand, often, the process of selling one’s house, is a tense period of time!

Professional, quality real estate agents, recognize, understand, and fully examine and consider, the seller’s objectives, and do everything possible, to provide the best possible service and advice. Will you be guided accordingly?

Every year new diet books or weight loss books are written. But how do you know which one is right for you? How do you choose the one that will help you meet your weight-loss goals? Before selecting a diet book or even creating a plan, first determine what your weight loss goals are. Some individuals may only be interested in losing a few pounds for a couple of months, while others may need to adjust their lifestyle to reach a healthy weight for the long term. One way to establish your weight loss goals, is to work with your doctor or other health care professional to help you establish realistic goals based on your individual needs. While keeping up to date on all of the latest information is valuable, try to avoid market hype and self proclaimed gurus. Base your decisions on sound established scientific information to avoid fads.

In general, people tend to approach diets in a number of different ways including:

Those willing to try the latest fad or gimmick being touted in the media

Those not willing to give up their favorite food(s) entirely or only eat them occasionally

Those who have the discipline to follow an established eating plan

Those who have the drive to maintain an appropriate exercise routine

Those who are in need of a diet change for the purposes of disease management like diabetes

Deciding which diet book is appropriate for you may at first seem like a daunting task. Begin by selecting a book that focuses on what your predetermined and established goals are. No weight loss book or diet book is perfect but a few popular options might include:

For those interested in some rules for eating more wisely:

Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan

For those interested in a cookbook that explains the nutritional value of the foods:

Now Eat This!: 150 of America’s Favorite Comfort Foods, All Under 350 Calories by Rocco DiSpirito

For individuals with diabetes looking to improve their quality of life through diet:

Dr. Neal Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes: The Scientifically Proven System for Reversing Diabetes without Drugs by Dr. Neal Barnard

Source by Dr. Samuel Dyer

Book editing services can turn a mediocre book into a best-selling book. When people write books, they usually make many mistakes that require book editing services. Some of the common mistakes made in books include grammar, wordiness, clarity, and punctuation. Book editing services enable writers to know what needs to be included or excluded in an article. Some writers fail to express their thoughts and ideas in a way that will be understood. Editing services correct these mistakes and ensure that the language used is appealing and captivating to the readers.

There are different types of books that require book editing services. They include fiction and nonfiction books, novels, biographies, memoirs, short stories, and children’s books. It is important for an author to take his book for editing once he or she completes it. This is because the writer might be too attached to the book to give an objective critique. Sometimes, what a writer writers might make sense to him or her but not to readers. Book editing services are therefore important because they allow the author to see these mistakes, get them corrected in order to transform the book into a best seller.

Different editors specialize in different editing services. It is therefore important for an author to choose an editor who is matched for his book. For instance, if the manuscript needs proofreading, a copy editor should be consulted. When a book needs a creative plot and a flow of ideas, a manuscript editor is necessary to turn the book from a dull write up to a creative and appealing masterpiece.

There are various types of book editing services. First, developmental editing is done immediately a writer or author submits his manuscript to a book editor. The editor is in charge of organizing the ideas and thoughts of the manuscript in order to present it in a way that is factual and clear. The plot of the manuscript is critically assessed and improvements are made. Developmental editing is very important because it is target oriented.

The book editor has the target audience in mind and ensures that the needs of the audience are addressed. During this stage, the book editor works with the author so that the author authorizes the changes that are made in the book. After developmental editing, it is important to consider book editing services such as substantive editing and proofreading.

Substantive editing is also known as rewriting the manuscript, and it involves thoroughly formatting and editing the book for style, content, and organization. This allows the information to flow well. This is where the book editor offers suggestions to the author in terms of arrangement of chapters and inclusion and exclusion of some sentences and chapters. Photos, references and graphics are checked as well as plagiarism. After this is done, the book will go through proofreading. A copy editor is in charge of proof reading the manuscript so as to check on any errors such as spelling and punctuation mistakes that were missed. When this is done, the author’s book will be ready for publication.

I have a bookcase of yellow paged well read books. I have pulled this one out again and checked to find it is still available. I also found some excellent reviews for it on Amazon. I agree with them it is an easy book to read and reminds us what to do to get out of our comfort zone and achieve our goals.

These are some of the comments from various readers:

“I highly recommend this book and am so pleased I finally found it”

“Most useful book I ever read”

“Hard hitting-for those that want to get off their buts”

“Timeless wisdom and wit!”

“I achieved amazing things following the authors advice and gaining wisdom”

“A great self-help book”

Pretty remarkable comments! John Rodgers and Peter MacWilliams also wrote the best-selling book “You Can’t Afford a Negative Thought”, I haven’t read it, perhaps I should, it’s still in print.

Sometimes you have to read several books to find one that really gets the message home, but I found this a well laid out source of inspiration. It is divided into 6 sections:

Part One – Why you are not living your dreams. The comfort zone is the biggest reason, we use fear, guilt, unworthiness, and hurt feelings as excuses for not doing things. All these negative emotions could give us energy to achieve if we didn’t let fear rule our lives.

Part Two – Built for Success. How to use the energy of fear to change your situation. More about the comfort zone and pushing past it.

Part-Three – Discovering and choosing your dreams. How do you choose what is important to you, and what will make your life fulfilling. Choices and consequences.

Part Four Building passion about your dream. How to develop passion, and turn a dream into a burning desire, with the help of visualization and other tools.

Part Five – Doing it! Do it now, action is necessary. No procrastination – Crastination is latin for leave it till tomorrow. Put your plans into action.

Part Six – Living your dreams. Now you are well on the way to living your dream – What next? Plan your next achievement, keep growing.

In all there are 467 pages to instruct you and take you from where you are now to success. It is quite a tomb, but easy to read as alternate pages have quotation, like me you can easily push through ignoring the quotations, or linger over then savouring words from great men.

It is one of those books you just have to read, if improving your circumstances is one of your desires. What would you really like to achieve, how would you like to change your life? If you knew you could not fail what would you embark on? Does working at home building an online business appeal to you. Do you long for time-freedom to spend flexible time with your family or following hobbies or other pursuits?

Affiliate marketing is a simple system for working online. It is simplest for beginners to enlist the help of a coach as with learning anything a coach or mentor is the surest way to learning a new task faster and more successfully. I struggled for ages until I found a great coach who provided professionally prepared best-selling products and up-to-date training. With the guidance of a good coach you can start earning whilst you learn the techniques.

Patrick Rothfuss is one of the most interesting and unique writers of this generation. You won’t find Twilight love stories here. His unique writing style paired with his special sense of humor has given rise to some of the most mind capturing pieces of work of this decade. His work has been critically acclaimed for his unique sense of writing style and captivating story lines. It won’t be long before he makes millions of dollars selling the book rights over for a major motion picture trilogy for his bestselling books. Patrick Rothfuss is a bestselling American writer who capitalizes on creating fantasy works and is also a guest lecturer at some of the major universities around the United States.

Patrick Rothfuss was born on June 6th, 1973 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was active at his school newspaper The Pointer at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. He is a naturally gifted fantasy writer which is demonstrated in all of his literary works of art. He currently works at his Alma Mata. He wrote the critically acclaimed The Kingkiller Chronicle which expanded into a three-volume series. But just because he is a best seller, it doesn’t mean that this is the first honorable nod that he has received in the literary world.

In fact, in 2002 Patrick Rothfuss won the prestigious Writers of the Future award in 2002 for his work The Road to Levinshir. He eventually sold this novel to DAW Books. His career exploded with the release of The Name of the Wind, the first part of his three-part series of the KingKiller Chronicle. In 2007, he won the Quail Award and the “Best Books of the Year” award from Publishers Weekly from their Science Fiction/ Fantasy/ Horror division. He also became a #1 New York Times Best Seller for his trilogy. The second book released in the trilogy is The Wise Man’s Fear which was released in March of 2011. The last book in the trilogy is titled The Doors of Stone. The release date has yet to be revealed for all of the Patrick Rothfuss fans out there.

Other works that Rothfuss has published and been critically acclaimed for his unique style of writing include “The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle” published in July of 2010 and Subterranean: Tales of Dark Fantasy where he published his award-winning The Road to Levinshir. There is no doubt that Patrick Rothfuss is a leading writer in the fantasy genre. He has brought a unique style of writing that most authors could only wish of possessing. He is an enormously talented fantasy writer, one who has yet to be fully recognized for all of his powerful and inspiring work within the genre. He is certainly a writing superstar with much more critically acclaimed work to come.

Recently a couple of coloring books for grown-ups became the top best-selling books on Amazon. (Yikes!) In addition, for quite a while five of the top ten best-sellers in Britain were adult coloring books.

And it wasn’t so long ago when adults were ashamed to admit they kind of liked coloring their children’s coloring books. It was considered childish and somewhat infantile. Researchers even claim that adult coloring books owe their rising popularity to the virtual anonymity of their purchasers – adults were actually too embarrassed to buy “such” books from regular real-life bookstores. It was thought to be socially unacceptable.

So what’s all that fuss about now? Why is coloring suddenly so trendy?

Well, apparently:

It gives you permission to feel like a child again.

Adult coloring books are like the new kid on the block – they bring about an air of mystery and intrigue, promising new, unknown and undiscovered adventures. More and more grown-ups are into this and it’s no coincidence. They can now “legally” get childish and no one would blame them. Coloring’s proven to evoke your inner child who simply wants to play and feel good. No more, no less.

It gives you the unique chance to escape from reality

“Escapism” is defined as “entertainment or recreation, as an “escape”… from the perceived unpleasant, boring, arduous, scary, or banal aspects of daily life.” In other words – coloring helps you cope with the otherwise stressful/awfully boring routine or with even depression. The magical world of multiple shapes and colors takes to a far nicer place, where you could enjoy simple pleasures.

It’s fun

Well, it is fun.

It sets your inner muse free

You can’t paint? Well, you can always color! Many people (including me) have the same problem – they’re full of creative energy but can’t scribble a doodle. And it does make me feel bad sometimes, when I feel the need to let it all out but don’t really know how. Blank pages make me feel even worse.

Then again, all those beautiful henna patterns, mandalas or even Ryan Gosling (oh, yes, there is such a book) pop up all of a sudden and I feel my inner color-Goddess rejoice.

It’s actually healthy

Mental health is often neglected but usually way more important than physical wellbeing. And coloring has a soothing effect both on body and soul. It helps you relax and free yourself from the clutches of stress. There are even specially designed coloring books to help you fall asleep (without the usual glass of red wine, too!)

It helps you socialize

Throw a coloring book party, inviting your childhood best friends! Everyone gets a copy and loosens their imagination over a cup of coffee or wine. You could talk about the good old times or simply discuss your favorite TV show. You could actually do all that while watching your favorite TV show! Whoa, talk about multitasking!

It gives you a reality check

First and foremost, it allows you to touch paper. And paper, as it turns out, is missing more and more from our daily lives, being replaced with all kinds of tech gadgets. You can also feel the pen you’re coloring with, sense its texture, you can smudge and smear with your own fingers. And there’s no “undo” button.

It’s cheap

Adult coloring books don’t cost much. They come in all kinds of sizes and prices, so they fit everyone’s needs (and pockets). Besides, one coloring book, if colored diligently, could last for at least a month. After all, it is way cheaper than a psychotherapy.

It’s all about you

It’s your style, your colors, your imagination – you, you and you again. Coloring books take you on a romantic date… with you.

So, pour some wine. Get into something comfy. Feel yourself.

Be yourself.

The learning curve for publishing and marketing a book can be tremendous, and no matter how much research is done before a book is published, most authors find that publishing and marketing a book is a “learn as you go” educational experience. Some of the best tips about publishing and marketing are derived from fellow authors, while others are happenstance and learned from trial and error. Here is a compilation of tips in no specific order, from simple common sense ones to secrets that will help you sell large quantities of books.

Make Your Business Cards Make You Stand Out. Have a professionally designed business card with your name and/or company name on it as large as possible. Make it colorful and unique so it stands out-so that it becomes more than a provider of information-it becomes a conversation piece among people. And carry a plastic name tag holder with you and slip your business card inside it. While everyone else at a conference will have one of those silly sticker name tags with a name written in marker, you will have a name tag that might include your logo or other branding marks for your business that make it memorable.

Hospital Gift Shops. Few authors I know have their books in hospital gift shops. This much overlooked venue can be a great place to sell books because you have a captive audience at your fingertips. People find themselves often unexpectedly stuck in a hospital for a long time, either as a patient, or as the patient’s friend or family member, and they need something to read. If your book is one of the few in the hospital gift shop, you’re likely to make a sale. Furthermore, hospital gift shop staff have told me that many hospital employees prefer to shop in the hospital gift shop over any other place because the gift shops have unique gifts, and because they are too tired after working long shifts to run to the department stores.

Book Delivery. When delivering books with your car, fill the backseat and the trunk, but never, ever put two boxes of books on your front seat. One author I know did so, only to turn a corner, have a box topple onto him, and nearly cause an accident. Books can be hazardous when not transported properly. Also, buy a small fold-up dolly to carry in your car in case you have to park far away or deliver multiple boxes. Trust me; you’ll be glad you did.

Sign up with Alibris. This site was unknown to me until another author told me about it. Rather than individually trying to list your book at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books a Million, and several other sites, you can do it all in one shot at Alibris.com. You can also manage your sales through its system so you don’t need to log into each individual site. The convenience and extra listings at multiple stores is worth the small fees.

Be an Amazon Seller. If you decide to list your book at Amazon individually, have a page created for the book but list it as not available. Then rather than shipping your books to Amazon and giving them a significant cut, list yourself as an individual seller and mail the individual copies yourself. Amazon takes a smaller cut of your money when you list yourself as an individual seller and still reimburses you for postage. The only disadvantage is purchases of your book are not eligible for Amazon’s free shipping, but you’ll definitely make more money selling your books this way.

Google Alerts. Are you wondering whether word is getting out about your book? Are you constantly Googling your name or your book title to see what’s being said about it? Sign up for Google Alerts and enter in keywords such as your name and that of your book title and you’ll get a list of the latest updates of where they are mentioned online in your email to save you time. If your book is about current events or other topics of high interest, you can also enter keywords into Google Alerts to get alerted whenever the topic appears in the news. For example, if you’ve written a book about whether Noah’s Ark ever existed, then you can use that as your keyword and whenever Noah’s Ark is in the news or a new book about it comes out, you’ll get an alert-you then will be on top of the latest news and can capitalize on the opportunity to contact the media or send out press releases on the topic whenever it becomes popular and newsworthy again.

The $30 Page. Most authors have at least once had their hands slip while signing books, or they misspell someone’s name. When Eric tells you his name isn’t spelled “Erik,” you smile, put aside the copy with the error, and give Eric a new book with his name spelled correctly. But you don’t have to throw away that other book. When you print your books, put an extra page in the front with just your book title on it, while your next page has the title and your name on it. Then always sign the first page, but if you screw up, you can tear out that page (but not in front of Erik) and sign your name on the next page and send it out to someone else. Whether your book sells for $5 or $30, that extra page just saved you money-that’s why I call it the $30 page-it’s worth $30 not to waste a book you could sell.

Waiting Rooms. Waiting rooms in doctors and dentists’ offices, barber shops, and other places where people may have to sit and wait are perfect places to market your book to a captive audience. Bring a free book to your dentist, your optometrist, your hairdresser, your local car garage. Tell them they can have the book for free and they are welcome to take it home to read, but you would then like to have it left in the waiting room for people to look at. The doctor or dentist will be excited that you are giving him or her something for free, and the patients or customers will be sure to see it and be able to read just enough to wet their interest so they will want to buy the book later.

Build Your Customer List. Some of this may be obvious, but not all of it. Put on your website an option to join your email newsletter. Collect email addresses so you can keep people updated on your events and future books. When you have a book signing, have a sign-up sheet for your email newsletter; be sure also to collect names and addresses if people want to be on a snail mail list. When people buy from you via credit card or pay with check, collect their addresses from their orders and off their checks for your mailing list. Mail out postcards to them when your next book comes out. If people are on both your email and your snail mail list, don’t hesitate to contact them both ways. An email may not go through. A book may only mildly interest them on the first notice, but peak their interest with the second.

Christmas Cards. Have special Christmas cards designed with an appropriate quote from your book or your book cover on them. Send them out in early December as thank you notes to the stores carrying your book and a reminder of your product, as well as to all your friends and family as a way to tell them about your book while giving them a few weeks to order copies for themselves or as Christmas presents.

Great tips for book publishing and marketing are everywhere. I’ve shared a few of mine with you. Now share yours with other authors and ask them to do the same. Then get out there and sell those books!

Kathy Reichs was born Kathleen Joan Toelle in 1950 in Chicago, Illinois. She received a BA in Anthropology from American University in 1971. She received her MA in Physical Anthropology in 1972 and her PHD in 1975 from Northwestern University. She is also professionally trained in archaeology. She is one of only about 60 forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of forensics where she is also a board member.

Kathy says, as a child she had a big interest in archaeology and was an avid mystery fan reading Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. Kathy Reichs wears many hats. Besides being a wife and mother, (she married attorney Paul Reichs and they have three children) she is a professor of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. She has also taught at Northern Illinois University, University of Pittsburgh, Concordia University and McGill University. She divides her time between North Carolina and Quebec where she works at the Laboratoire de Sciences Judicaires et de Medicine Leagale. She is also Director of Forensic Anthropology for the Providence of Quebec. She went to Quebec, initially, as part of a program allowing professors to swap positions for a year. As there are very few board certified forensic anthropologists that speak French, they came to an agreement for her to commute monthly from Charlotte.

Kathy explains that the forensic anthropologist is generally asked into a case when a body is too decomposed, burned, mummified, mutilated, or skeletonized for a normal autopsy. Sometimes they are called to look at damage in bones of even fresh bodies. This often tells her what type of weapon was used to sustain the injuries. It not uncommon for skeletal remains to be brought in for identification and they turn out to be animal or bird. Kathy has edited forensics textbooks and written several journal articles. In 1997 she had her first book of fiction published.

Her series of books are based on the Forensic Anthropology character, Dr. Temperance Brennan. These series of books inspired the television series “Bones” with Kathy as Executive Producer. “Bones” is the name Seeley Booth, Dr. Temperance Brennan’s FBI partner, calls her. “Bones” is based very loosely on Kathy Reich’s book series. Dr. Temperance Brennan, besides being a forensic anthropologist at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, DC, working closely with the FBI, also writes best selling books with her protagonist being Kathy Reichs. Kathy played a small role in one of the “Bones” episodes, playing a forensic anthropologist who is a member of Zach Addy’s, dissertation committee. It’s the scene where he is defending his thesis in front of the committee, and we are a stern and dour group. Zach Addy is Dr. Brennan’s assistant. The show is now in its fifth season. She says she would love to see Dr. Temperance Brennan portrayed in a movie but is waiting for the right offer. Kathy Reichs was a member of the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team participating in the cleanup at the World Trade Center, which she said was the hardest thing she ever had to do. Kathy has worked on projects with the National Disaster Medical System team. She is also an expert witness in criminal trials. Kathy has identified victims from the genocide in Guatemala and has appeared to testify at the United Nations Genocide Tribunal in Rwanda. She also trains agents at Quantico, the FBI Academy.

Book written by Kathy Reichs:

Deja Dead (1997)

Death Du Jour (1999)

Deadly Decisions (2000)

Fatal Voyage (2001)

Grave Secrets (2002)

Bare Bones (2003)

Monday Mourning (2004)

Cross Bones (2005)

Break No Bones (2006)

Bones to Ashes (2007)

Devil Bones (2008)

206 Bones (2009)

Omnibus:

Deja Dead/Death Du Jour in (2004)

Novels:

I’d Kill for That (2004) (with Rita Mae Brown, Jennifer Cruise, Linda Farstein, Heather Graham, Kay Hooper, Katherine Neville, Anne Perry, Julie Smith and Tina Wainscott)

Hello, Steven here, and thanks for reading my article. If you’re looking for a review of Mike Maloney’s best-selling book, ‘Guide to Investing in Gold and Silver’ you’ve come to the right place.

The book is part of Robert Kiyosaki’s series of ‘Rich Dad’ books advising on financial management and wealth creation, and was published in 2008. It is the best-selling book on investing in precious metals ever published. The author is the CEO and founder of GoldSilver.com.

Divided into 4 sections, the book focuses respectively on the history of money, the current situation of the monetary system, how the situation is likely to develop and the different ways people can obtain gold and silver, including pitfalls to be avoided.

The book starts with the monetary systems of the ancient world, and the reader will soon realize that the saying “there is nothing new under the sun” applies to the history of money just like everything else. The reader is guided through the debasement of the coinage in ancient Rome, and its origins in spending promises by the political class to gain popularity, but which could never be delivered.

The original gold and silver coins were made smaller, debased by mixing with lower value metals, and re-cast with higher values stamped on them. This served to increase the supply of money but had the effect of making each unit of money less valuable. More recently the book outlines the period of the classical gold standard from the 19th Century to World War One, the gold standard light system of Bretton Woods after World War Two, and the ending of the convertibility of the US dollar to gold by President Nixon on 15th August 1971.

With regard to the current situation, Mike argues that the value of most financial assets have been falling since 1999/2000, which was both the bottom of the gold market and the top of the stock market. This time was when paper assets were most coveted, and the real money of silver and gold most over-looked. Although the price of paper assets may have increased in nominal terms, in reality their fall in value has been hidden by inflation.

The book discusses the soaring government deficits and liabilities, and that these are being financed by increasing the money supply. Mike argues that the market cycle is turning away from paper assets, and in favour of the historic money of gold and silver.

The fourth section contains a comprehensive overview of the ways to buy precious metals, including pitfalls to avoid.

The book was easy to read and informative, and I would recommend it both specifically as a guide on precious metals, and more generally for improving peoples financial education.

I speak to a lot of new authors who are waiting until their book comes out to do some promotion and publicity on it. They do not realize that they are already behind if they wait. Most successful authors have publicity going out about their book long before it ever is available for purchase. You can promote your book before it's finished. Bristol Palins' book is not going to be for sale until later this year. In order to insure that it become a best seller they are starting now.

Right now the media is tracking rumors of the book deal. They talk about where it is listed and how it keeps popping up. Of course there is no official word on the book, the actual title or the release date. IT does keep Bristol Palin's name in the media until her book is released. After all, they can not keep talking about her dance show activities. Now is the time to prime the pump on book sales. Create a desire for the book. If you book is not finished you can do the same thing.

You can begin to do interviews about your upcoming book. You can write articles and then mention your upcoming book. All the planning that is done for book signings will not pay off if no one attends them. You have to create desire. Are you unsure of your self-published release date? My advice is to set your date and work with that. If something happens and you do not reach your goal date, then you can make a new plan. A book is only considered new the first four months is for sale. That is why many Amazon best sellers are still pushing their books months later. You must realize the clock starts before the book actually is available. As soon as you know you have a book coming out, you must promote it. When you look at your budget for your book, you must include a marketing and PR budget. Without marketing you book will not sell. The dream of selling 10,000 books from the trunk of your car has a level of dedication that almost no one has.

By creating a marketing budget, you make it easy for those who want your book to find it and buy it. By creating marketing you can get the price you want for the book.
By spending money on marketing you position your book and create branding that would otherwise be missed.

The other day I was casually browsing through Wikipedia when I came across an article that listed the bestselling books of all time in terms of copies sold. While there were quite a few I had already read, some of the others in that list were also quite new to me. So here is my compilation of the Top 3 Books of all time along with a small brief review of each.

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

A Tale of Two Cities is the largest selling book worldwide with over 200 million copies sold ever since it was released and is a true masterpiece in my opinion. This book is set in the cities of London and Paris during the French Revolution and has a host of interesting characters that will remain etched onto your memory for years.

The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien

Everybody has seen or heard about this epic trilogy in the movie format but how many of you have actually read Tolkien’s greatest masterpiece? This amazing book series has it all; from dungeons, to hobbits to treachery to friendship and to hope!

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy has sold well over 150 million copies worldwide and is must-read in my opinion. Read this one for the original Dark Lord and his land of Mordor!

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie is among the best master storytellers of all times and there are very few others who come close to her in the mystery and detective genre. And Then There Were None was originally released under the name Ten Little Niggers and is a dark, thrilling tale of murder, deceit and treachery.

This particular book is one of her finest works to date and has sold well over 100 million copies all over the world since its launch and has been translated into over 30 languages.

The above three books belong to different genres and if you haven’t read any of them till now, then I highly suggest you do so as soon as possible. Not only are they among the most popular books of all time, each one is a literary masterpiece in itself.

So that was my list of the Top 3 Books of All Time. I’ve tried giving a brief review of each of these books but in truth, nothing compares to reading the books themselves, so go ahead and get your copy now!

If you have ever dreamed of writing your own eBook to make money online or to share your knowledge with the world, then read on and find out exactly how to write an eBook in 7 simple steps:

1. What Do You Know – List out everything that you know how to do very well. When writing an eBook, you want to choose a topic that you know a lot about. Why? Because this will cut down on your research time and you will not waste any time trying to learn more about the topic because it is something that you know a lot about.

Do not leave anything off your list. I know it might be hard to imagine that someone would be willing to pay you money for your knowledge on some of your hobbies or skills, but the truth is that if you provide the information in a quick and easy way to “consume” for them, you will be saving them hours of searching online for help.

2. Will They Buy It? – You should figure out which of your topics people would be willing to pay for. Head over to Google and do a search for the main keywords that apply to your topics.

So if you are thinking of writing an eBook on scrap booking, enter that into Google and see what comes up. If there are a bunch of advertisements running along the right side of Google, then you have a topic that people are interested in.

Repeat this keyword research for all the topics that you are most interested in writing about. Cross off anything that does not have a lot of search results or ads running. Why? Because if there are not a lot of search results and few advertisements, the market might not be big enough to support your efforts.

3. Find Their Most Pressing Questions – Once you have picked a topic to write about, find an online forum where people are gathering to talk about the topic. Your goal is to find out what the key issues people are having with the topic. Write down the most frequently asked questions (I cut and paste the information I find into a Word document). Write down the resources people are recommending as they might be something for you to look into purchasing as well.

4. Write Down Topline Thoughts – As soon as you have finished writing down some of the key questions being asked, take some time to write down your topline thoughts on how you would answer the questions. Is there one problem in particular that you know a lot about and can easily write about?

The key is to focus and narrow down the scope of your project so that you can quickly complete your first draft with minimal research. Go ahead and create a quick outline of what you will write about, including sub-topics.

5. Write it Fast – Now it is time to write your eBook. This is the step I do not want you to over-think. Your mindset should be to write your first draft as quickly as possible. Aim to write 3 to 5 sentences under each sub-topic in your outline and you will quickly finish your first draft.

Just get to the heart of what your reader needs to know about that sub-topic and move on. You will tidy up your writing and add information during the next step.

6. Fill In The Blanks – Now that you have the rough “guts” of your first draft completed, it is time to fill in the blanks. There are bound to be some areas that you quickly went through when you wrote your draft and need to add more information. Conversely, there are going to be sections where you have too much material and these sections need to be cut down. Always remember that you want to be short and to the point with your writing.

Do not over-think the process. Instead, aim to fill out the blanks as quickly as possible. Once you are done, take the time to quickly go through your draft and fix any spelling, grammar or formatting errors.

7. Publish It – With your rough draft briefly edited and filled out, it is time to quickly publish it. Head over to FreePDFConvert.com or a similar site and convert your Word document into a PDF for free.

Congratulations, you are now a published author!

The only steps left are to set up your website and start selling your eBooks from your website. The good news is that a site like Clickbank.com makes it easy to sell your products online.

Whether you’re an experienced author already racking up sales and new readership, or you’re just dipping your toes into the vast waters of the self-publishing industry, the thought of making your books available through Kindle Unlimited (KU) has no doubt crossed your mind.

The real questions is, should you or shouldn’t you?

Is there a clear advantage for you, the author, in using this service? Because let’s be honest, your main goals are to gain exposure for your work and make a living while doing it.

With this in mind, let’s discuss how you can market your books effectively by leveraging the Kindle Unlimited platform, along with the pros and cons of using KU vs a wider distribution strategy.

What is Kindle Unlimited?

If you don’t already know, Kindle Unlimited is a subscription-based service offered by Amazon that allows readers (Prime and otherwise) to access their entire inventory of KU books for one low monthly fee.

At under $10 a month, it’s easy to see why Kindle Unlimited has gained a reputation as the “Netflix” of books!

But, wait a minute… $10 a month for unlimited access to all of their books!? If you’re wondering who makes money with this arrangement other than Amazon, you’d be in good company.

Authors the world over have been scratching their heads and tip-toeing around signing up for Kindle Unlimited because they’re not sure about its long-term benefits or potential drawbacks.

The Pros and Cons of Using KU vs. Using Wider Distribution

There are several pros and cons that go along with using KU vs. wider distribution options, or doing the exact opposite.

Pros

It enhances the reach of your books – Amazon has at least fifty percent market share in the US and UK when it comes to digital book sales. That’s VERY significant. Their best-selling Kindle e-readers, tablets and apps, as well as Amazon’s amazing ecommerce platform and knack for turning browsers into buyers are what drive this phenomenon. And it’s increasing every year.

The bottom line? Having your books featured on Amazon increases the likelihood that they will be found and read by a lot of people.

You gain access to Amazon’s ecommerce tools – Amazon’s team is masterful at getting consumers to buy, and it’s no different when they market digital books.

Through their KU program, you gain access to unique promotional tools like their Kindle Countdown Deals and Free Book Promotion, which both help to boost your readership and launch your new titles to success.

You earn royalties for ever page read – Unlike traditional books sales where a customer buys your book and you get a one-off payment, with KU authors are paid a small royalty for every page read from each book.

Yes, you probably won’t make millions, but every penny does add up.

Cons

Exclusivity of your book title with KU – You read right. If you decide to promote a book using Kindle Unlimited, you cannot promote that title anywhere else.

You’re title is bound to Amazon’s KU for 90 day spans, after which, you have the option to renew your contract.

Potentially low earnings – Unless you’re in the top percentile of book publishers in the Kindle Unlimited program, you shouldn’t expect to get hefty royalty checks.

The vast majority of self-published authors find that the potential for earnings per book are much higher on other platforms when compared to KU.

There seems to be more to love about the program than there is to hate it.

But is it wise to put all of your eggs in one basket and have titles exclusive to Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited? Is there a point to even signing up if the chance of earning significant royalties are slim?

The Answer: Yes and No, depending on your marketing strategy.

How to Use KU to Sell More Books

We already mentioned that Amazon has the lion’s share of the digital book market, but something that you may not know is that their KY customers are no ordinary readers.

The average person who signs up for a subscription service like Kindle Unlimited is best described using one word: Voracious!

Think about it.

Who else would sign up for an unlimited supply of books each and every month? Someone who can’t get enough of the written word and who has the potential to turn into a very loyal reader, if given a good reason!

Marketing experts the world over have used the “free offer” angle to hook new users into their products and services for decades. Some examples are, free samples given away at wholesale clubs, free trials of software and free content given away to get new subscribers for email lists.

It’s so surprise that this strategy works amazingly well for selling eBooks too, especially if you’re newer to the game and haven’t made a name for yourself among readers.

If you view Kindle Unlimited as a springboard for launching your self-publishing career it can be a real asset. The key is not to make all of your books available there, but only a few of your absolute best.

And why your best work?

Because, if a reader comes across one of your books you want them to be so excited, spellbound and addicted that they have no choice but to go out and buy additional titles if they want more. How’s that for encouragement?

Even a single exceptionally written and presented book offered on the KU platform has the ability to move you from completely unknown to prominent among your target audience, literally overnight.

But what if you’re an established self-publisher who already has a significant following?

If you’re already well-known and enjoying lucrative digital books sales, Kindle Unlimited may not be an essential aspect to growing your readership (although it can’t hurt).

On the other hand, by not publishing at least one title on the platform, you may be missing out on significant marketing potential (don’t worry, you can always use a pen name).

Lindsay Buroker, one author earning a full-time income for her work, attributes anywhere from 85-90% of her income to utilizing the Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing and Kindle Unlimited platforms. In contrast, her other book titles spread across seven alternative platforms collectively bring in the remaining 10-15%.

In her case, the math is undeniable.

But the only way to know how it would work for you is to choose some titles, register for your own Amazon KU account and see what happens.

The Perils of Avoiding Wider Distribution

No matter how you feel about Amazon, the fact is that they are one of the major book distributors worldwide. While it may be a grave mistake to leave them out of your plans for marketing and distributing self-published titles, total exclusivity could be equally troublesome.

While it can be very effective, as with most things, there is one caveat to using Kindle Unlimited exclusively for marketing your brand.

While Amazon does have the majority of readers, you are missing out on the millions of readers on other platforms such as Apple’s iBookstore, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and more.

For that reason alone, it is never recommended to use any single distribution and promotion strategy. Instead, focus on using KU to promote some of your best books to gain the exposure and new readership that only Amazon can offer and put the rest of your books up for sale on any platform and in any format that will produce sales and profits for your work.

While Kindle Unlimited isn’t a good fit for every author, it is worth investigating as part of a multi-strategy book marketing plan.

Book titles that find more readers and sell more books are often based on metaphors. Adding metaphors to your book titles helps the title immediately communicate the essence of your book.

Because of the power of metaphor-based titles, they often form the basis of publishing empires. In these cases, the original title becomes the basis of an entire series of books, as we’ll see below. These can grow to become world-wide brands, catapulting the authors to success with dozens–even hundreds–of different titles based on the same metaphor.

Advantages of Metaphors

Immediate recognition. A metaphor communicates at a glance. A well-chosen metaphor needs no explanation. It’s message immediately hits home.

Storytelling power. Metaphors tap into the power of stories to engage readers on an emotional, as opposed to a “factual” basis. They engage your readers’ hearts as well as their brains. They strike chords within your readers.

Multiple levels. A single metaphor can communicate numerous attributes and emotions. When your title includes an appropriate metaphor, your title taps into numerous nuances and details associated with the metaphor.

Comfort and familiarity. Titles with metaphors immediately establish a comfort and familiarity. They’re also easier to remember and–hence–easier to recommend to co-workers and friends.

Types of metaphor titles

There are as many different types of metaphors as there are emotions and different ways to describe multiple aspects of a topic. Here are a few of the different types of metaphors that have become the basis of successful book titles:

Comfort. At some points in our lives, we all need to be comforted. We may have lost our jobs, our spouses, our friends, or our pets. We need to connect with others who may have experienced the same loss, or are currently experiencing the same loss. Sometimes our need for comfort can be very narrowly defined, such as “wives with husbands overseas in the military,”

Philosophy, attitude, and resources. Metaphor-based titles can also instantly paint a picture of the challenges and resources of our intended readers. At a glance, an appropriate metaphor can target selected types of readers in a way that immediately resonates with them.

Complexity. A metaphor-based title can identify a book’s intended market as well as describe both the approach, and the the level of information contained in the book. Without using “obvious” words like “beginner” or “newcomer,” a metaphor can communicate that the book is intended for entry-level readers.

Style. Finally, the particular metaphor chosen can not target the intended reader, but can communicate that the author speaks the reader’s language, and really understands where the reader is coming from.

A series based on a comfort metaphor

One of the most successful book series in the world is Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen’s Chicken Soup series. The first title in the series, Chicken Soup for the Soul, was published on June 28, 1993.

The authors already had the materials in hand–101 story submissions, but they lacked a title. They each agreed to meditate on the topic for one hour. During one of his meditation sessions, Jack Canfield remembered his grandmother telling him that “chicken soup can cure anything!” Since the original title was designed to inspire the soul, not the body, the obvious title was Chicken Soup for the Soul.

By December, the book was a strong seller. By September of 1994, Chicken Soup for the Soul was on every bestseller list in the United States and Canada.

Today, there are over 200 titles in the series, and over 112 million copies have been sold. The title has been translated into more than 40 languages.

More important, according to Harris Polls, 88.7 percent of the public not only recognizes the Chicken Soup for the Soul brand, but knows what it is.

It’s impossible to conceive of success on this order if the original Chicken Soup for the Soul title had been replaced with “conventional” title like:

How to Cheer Yourself Up

101 Inspirational Stories

How Others Have Overcome Obstacles

The power of the Chicken Soup brand is based on the near universal recognition, and accompanying emotional response, to feeling sick and needing to be cared for by someone who loves you.

Attitude, Resources, and Philosophy

Jay Conrad Levinson’s Guerrilla Marketing series is the world’s best-selling marketing book series. There are over 40 million Guerrilla Marketing books in print around the world. The series has created a market for Jay’s speaking and consulting on every continent; as this is being written, Jay Conrad Levinson is speaking in Poland, Latvia, and Croatia.

The Guerrilla Marketing brand’s strength is based on the immediate recognition the title provides. Guerrilla Marketing resonates with business owners who lack the unlimited budgets and resources of major corporations. Guerrilla Marketers succeed by making the most of whatever resources they have.

“Guerrilla” communicates the philosophy, “Marketing” communicates the topic. Together, the two words tell the whole story.

Complexity

One of the most successful series of books in the writing and publishing field is Rick Frishman and Robyn Freedman Spizman’s Author 101 series. There are several titles in the series:

Author 101: Bestselling Secrets from Top Agents

Author 101: Bestselling Book Proposal

Author 101: Bestselling Nonfiction

Author 101: Bestselling Book Publicity

The “Author 101” unites the titles under an immediately understood umbrella. Traditionally, college freshmen level classes are associated with “101” level identification numbers, with advanced courses beginning in the 2 series. Thus, anyone who has been to college can immediately recognize that these books are for new authors who want to write a book.

Author style and target market

A book title based on a metaphor can communicate the author’s style as well as target the intended market. For example, Peter Bowerman launched a series of books using The Well-Fed Writer title. This was quickly followed by The Well-Fed Self-Publisher and The Well-Fed Writer: Back for Seconds. Consider what you already know about these titles even before you glance at their back covers or their table of contents:

Are these serious, or academic, books? Of course not. The title communicates that the books are colloquial and informal.

Are successful writers the target market? No, again; the market is writers who want to become successful.

Conclusion

It’s fascinating just how much you can tell about a book from its title, especially if it’s a metaphor-based title. When a book title is based on a recognized metaphor, the title–itself–can sell the book. By instantly communicating comfort, philosophy, complexity, or style, metaphor-based titles can sell more books and find more readers by creating an immediate resonance with them on a deep emotional level.

Ask yourself: How effectively does my proposed book title use the power of metaphor to find more readers and sell more books by communicating on an emotional level?

When is the best time to sell your book? The second your book is in the printing process. Pre-selling your book is a must and an important marketing strategy, especially for self-published authors. If you're not a New York Times best-selling author or celebrity, then the success of your book is a marathon, not a sprint. This means you must talk repeatedly and consistently about your book over a long period of time.

Everyone gets the general concept behind marketing … Advertise. However, it does not do any good for a product to have a big "to-do" when it is released and then just drops off the face of the earth and out of the minds of the consumers. Your book is a product and in order for people to buy the product, they need to know it exists before its release date. So, how do you make your book sell even prior to its launch date? By email marketing.

An email marketing campaign allows you to reach quickly and inexpensively a huge market-hundreds, thousands or even millions of people. Email advertisements work like a spider web. They can be boundless, giving you more possibilities and bigger sales. By personally broadcasting your email advertisement to your own list and on social networking sites, it can increase the popularity of your book and these virtual connections, just like word of mouth, forward your advertisement without hesitation, causing an increase to your book's exposure to books lovers and reading enthusiasts across the internet, further expanding its popularity.

You may want to order only 100 books, but if you send the email advertisement designed by Halo, you can gain more book sales and add to your original book order. Authors have earned over $ 2,000 in prepublication orders before their book was in their hands. Email advertisements can be talked about and attract discussions about your book, further expanding its popularity. By increasing your book's exposure, you can vastly increase book sales and awareness about your published work. Furthermore, these email advertisements link to the Halo online bookstore, where the consumers can read more about the book and learn how they can purchase it-a highly effective tool that helps drive traffic to the book and you the author.

Email advertisements have become a highly effective, multi-dimensional book marketing tool in today's competitive prepub sales. According to the 2008 Channel Preference Survey, 66% of their consumers made a purchase because of an email advertisement. Consumers prefer email more than 3-to-1 for marketing communications.

Introduction

Books represent one of the most lucrative products you can develop to position yourself as an expert both on and offline, more so, online. Your book can get to the White House, Kremlin or Buckingham Palace, some of the most secured places in the planet, which you may not be able to get to. But a book is a low value product, selling at about $10 to $20 so you need to sell thousands of books to really make money. Here I’m talking about really good books, well researched and written with a good storyline. An average book rarely sells more than a few thousand copies so you need to put in your best effort to ensure your book makes it to the best seller list. This is easier said than done, but it can be done.

There are many schools of thought on how one should approach the issue of book writing. Should you write a book after you have achieved fame or write a book to achieve fame? I believe it’s an egg and chicken story. I strongly believe any person who has a story to tell should write a book to bring his or her story alive. Fame is secondary but it may as well follow if you pursue the right strategies before, during and after your book is published.

A book should be at the centre of your strategy to becoming an expert. With your book, you can launch courses, mount seminars, join the speaking circuit as a motivational speaker, turn your book into a film, turn it into several formats like eBook, and audio book. So writing a book is very pivotal to your quest to building an expert empire. Indeed the easiest, fastest and boldest way to position yourself as an expert is to write a book. If you look closely, the fame legendary personalities such as Tom Peters, Simon Sinek, and Peter Diamandis, to mention just three, have achieved was aided by their books. Tom Peters’ In Search of Excellence (written with Bob Waterman) propelled him to stardom. So did Start With Why and Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think, by Simon Sinek and Peter Diamandis respectively.

Why You Should Write a Book

As I indicated above, you don’t write a book to achieve fame. If you do it well, fame will come. You write a book to share a compelling message. John Kremer is a well known authority in the book business. He is the author of the best-selling book, 1001 Ways to Market Your Book. Here are his top 10 reasons why you should write a book:

1. Become an expert

2. Support a cause

3. Share a message

4. Change lives

5. Attract better customers

6. Build your list

7. Establish an institute

8. Build a tribe

9. Create wealth

10. Sell rights

There is no feeling more exhilarating than stumbling on the world’s most iconic airports, libraries, shops and websites and finding your book displayed alongside those of the planet’s most revered authors like Daniel Pink, Malcolm Gladwell and Tim Ferriss. Books capture our imagination. Emily Dickinson said “there is no frigate like a book”, and an unknown author said, “if you drop a book and three pounds of gold, pick the book first before the gold”, while Charlie “Tremendous” Jones said, “of all the things in this world, only two will have the greatest impact on your life, the books you read, and the people you meet.” Nothing else comes close to giving you inner peace and satisfaction that exceeds all understanding than a book. So get up and start writing your first book.

Writing Your Book

A book is basically a story about yourself, others, events, phenomena, situations and the like that you pick up the threads and convey to others in the most poignant way that instructs, informs, motivates, inspires, entertains and educates. A book is at the intersection of ideas, information and knowledge packaged as a story. You package your story by exploring questions such as the following, first suggested by Brendon Burchard, the best-selling author of several books, including The Charge, Life Golden Tickets, and The Millionaire Messenger:

• Who are you and what have you been through in life that others can relate to in their own life?”

• What have you overcome and how?

• What did you figure out along the way?

• What did you succeed at-what results did you get?

• What are you going to teach me that I can apply now to make my life better?

Arising from the above questions, Brendon suggests asking secondary questions that will enable you flesh out your ideas, such as:

• A story of struggle from my past that my audience might relate to is…

• Something I have overcome in my life that others might find inspiring or feel a connection with is…

• The main lessons I have learned from my journey include…

• Accomplishments and affiliations I have in my life that help further my credibility include…

• Lessons I can teach people that will help them in my topic area and their life situation include…

Your Keys to Success

John Locke, who sold 1 million eBooks within five months and then wrote a book about it suggests the following:

1. Have a plan

2. Know your target audience

3. Take a business approach

4. Use the right tools and use them properly

The Three Ps That Bring Your Plan Alive

According to Brendon Burchard, one of the top 100 most followed online trainers on Facebook, you need the following – without going into details:

• Positioning

• Packaging

• Promotion

Three Cs That Show You Are Out There Only For Your Audience

Brendon further recommends the following, again without going into details:

• Care

• Compassion

• Consistency

The Six Simple Steps to Writing Your Book

In my interaction with friends, BWC (Book Writing Clinic – which I founded) alumni members and a host of others, the top question that usually crops up is “where do I start?” Briefly you can follow this seven-step sequence:

• Step 1: Decide What You Wish To Write About

• Step 2: Decide The Title & Sub-title of your Book

• Step 3: Decide The Content

• Step 4: Research Your Book

• Step 5: Decide Who Will Write The Book

• Step 6: Write, Proof Read & Edit Your Book

• Step 7: Publish & Release Your Book To The World

The Six Sections of a Typical Book

A typical book will have the following sections but note that nothing is caste on stone:

1. Acknowledgement

2. Introduction

3. Foreword

4. Preface

5. Contents

6. Index

Six Simple Steps to Structuring the Book or the main contents

According to information from BWC alumni members, this is the section most would be authors struggle the most with. Indeed, other than a book, you can use this approach for any product. If you’re a beginner, it requires limiting your book to five or seven chapters. This is how it’s done. Pick a notebook and divide it into five or seven sections (corresponding to the number of chapters you wish to write) and write the section or chapter headings and then follow that up with the five points you wish to make per chapter. Then begin writing. As a beginner, it’s important you don’t stretch beyond five major points per chapter to avoid repeating yourself. If you follow the sequence above, your notebook will look something like this:

Chapter 1: Point 1. Point 2. Point 3. Point 4, Point 5.

Chapter 2: Point 1. Point 2. Point 3. Point 4, Point 5.

Chapter 3: Point 1. Point 2. Point 3. Point 4, Point 5.

Chapter 4: Point 1. Point 2. Point 3. Point 4, Point 5.

Chapter 5: Point 1. Point 2. Point 3. Point 4, Point 5.

The Three-Step Formula To Writing Each Chapter and sub-headings

This is nothing more than the basic tool we use in every conceivable endeavour to generate ideas, which goes by the fearful name brainstorming. Brainstorming is a simple process for thinking about, listing ideas and grouping similar ideas together into buckets. This is how it is done:

Step 1: Draw a circle and write the main idea you wish to brainstorm on in the center of the circle, example, “how to cook mouthwaterin
g coconut rice.”

Step 2: Write or list everything you know about coconut rice, with each idea sticking out from the circumference of the circle as legs. For coconut rice for instance, it will include rice, coconut, fish, and so on.

Step 3: Start brainstorming.

In reality, 5 – 7 people should participate in a typical brainstorming exercise. Follow brainstorming rules, which I suppose you know. If you don’t know read it up. Typically, avoid criticizing any idea, just keep bringing out the ideas no matter how outlandish. At this point we are looking at quantity, not the quality of ideas. The rule is, the more the ideas the better. After you have exhausted all the ideas, start eliminating repeated, unworkable and impracticable ideas, and then group related ideas into buckets. With your brainstormed ideas at hand, you’re ready to write your first book.

7 Mistakes to Avoid in Becoming an Expert Author

Book writing is a creative endeavour so the tendency as a beginner is to start doubting yourself. You start asking, what credentials do I have? You start fearing that people will laugh at you when your book comes at. My advice is to think of the opposites. Think of the applause you’ll get. Think of the new opportunities that will open up for you. Brendon Burchard, the founder of the now defunct Expert Industry Association, has the following advice for new writers trying to hammer out their first book. He says, don’t:

1. Let your inner critic take over.

2. Fail to keep your readers engaged.

3. Write and edit at the same time.

4. Forget to track your results.

5. Add too much irrelevant details.

6. Publish before you’re ready.

7. Stop learning when you know enough.

The Fastest Way to Get Your Book Published

As a beginner, your chances of landing an agent and getting you book published by one of the top three global publishers are slim. However, you can enlist Amazon’s vast resources to release your book to a global audience by using one or all of the following:

• Amazon Create Space (for physical books)

• Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) (for eBooks)

• Amazon ACX (for audio books)

Publish on Demand Service Providers Other Than Amazon

Other than Amazon, the following independent publishers will gladly publish your book for as low as $500 depending on the contract you choose:

• Author House

• Greenleaf Book Group Press

• Telemachus Press

• Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company

• Trafford

Formats to Consider Other Than the Physical Book

To gain enough traction, you need to publish your book in a format that people can access anywhere in the world. Without going into details, here are the main formats:

• PDF

• Epub

• Mobi (Kindle)

• Audio Books

• Book Turned Into A Movie

Pricing Your Book

Pricing is one of the most difficult and tricky aspects of selling books. Book prices range from 99cents for eBooks to $25 for hard covers, with the average for paper backs being about $10. While the default price for Amazon eBooks is $2.99, on your website you can sell at any price, indeed, for as low as 99cents. As a self published author you control how you price your book but as a general rule of thumb, the cheaper your book, the more you’ll sell. Unless you have deep pockets and a huge marketing machinery to engage in massive promotion, my best advice is to price your book at a single digit.

Platforms to Market Your Book

Here are the platforms in order of accessibility and control for selling eBooks and audio books:

• Your website

• Amazon

• Audible

• Lulu

• Indie Books

• Goodreads

• CD Baby

• Sound Cloud

• iTunes

Your Book Marketing Strategies

If you recall, under the keys to success, we quoted John Locke as recommending, have a plan, know your target audience, take a business approach and use the right tools and use them properly. We also mentioned the three Ps that bring your plan alive as positioning, packaging and promotion. If you did you job well at the beginning, you’ll reap bountiful dividends. Your blog and your website should be the command posts or home bases to bring your book marketing strategies alive. The subsidiary channels will be your Facebook Page, Twitter Handle, LinkedIn Page, YouTube and Vimeo channels. All the channels should work to drive prospects to your website to buy your book and position you as an authority and an expert in your own neck of the wood.

Jeremy Jones in a blog post “How to Write and Publish a Book to Become a Bestselling Author in Less than 30 Days”, wrote, “Writing a book is the most powerful way imaginable to market and promote yourself. The big picture is that you can rapidly create content and be seen, read, and heard on any Internet-capable device anywhere in the world and be promoted by the biggest brands in the world, namely iTunes, Amazon, and Google.” Jeremy suggests:

1. Create your content only once by answering questions in the form of a livecast.

2. Capture the video and promote it through Google Hangouts or YouTube Live.

3. Take the same content and repurpose it into a podcast and post it on iTunes.

4. Take the same content and convert it into a book cast.

Conclusion

Start writing to impact the world. Tell the world your story today, tomorrow may be too late. What I have said may seem daunting for a beginner but it’s not. That’s why you need help. The specific or exact steps to execute the strategies and ideas I have highlighted are sadly outside the scope of this article. If you wish to learn more, enlist in my Expert Empire Program, Book Writing Clinic or book a direct coaching session with me and you will be on your way to writing your first book, which may become a New York Times best-seller. You will never know until you take the first bold step to write your book. Paul Sweeney once said, “you know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.”
