Dude, this is a junky article.

Angry Birds is not a tower Defense game.
Plants vs. Zombies can maybe be referred to as a spinoff of TD.
Where is TowerMadness in this list?

This article looks like it was thrown together in 10 minutes by searching the top 100 apps in Itunes. Why was it even written?

      Hi Tom,
These games are based on my experience,
Angry birds and plans vs zombies are tower defense games, I have never played towermadness, but i will add it in list.

      Please don’t make snap judgments.
If you have any suggestions or ideas, just let us know and we will do it.

Actually, Tom is absolutely correct. Angry birds is not even close to being a tower defense. Plants vs. zombies maybe, but not in the traditional sense. Here’s another idea, why not rename your article? You have games listed that aren’t even for the iPad. Tom is right, this is poorly written.

how not to write a research paper:

let’s define a list of tower defense games for ipad:

list a few games that DON’T HAVE IPAD VERSIONS. ipad runs iphone games really small or requires illegal/$$ hacks.

list games that are NOT TOWER DEFENSE GAMES. Angry birds: you’re not defending, you’re attacking. you are not building towers. zombies vs: doesn’t actually have towers, but we can let this slide I guess.

Now SKIP SOME OF THE BEST GAMES that actually are both tower defense and for the ipad.

If anything angry birds is tower offense. It is most definitely NOT a TD genre game.

#1 – what types of towers can you build to defend against in Angry birds (trick quesiton, there are no towers and your not defending anything…)

Also where is Kingdom Rush on these lists? Probably my favorite one

Dude, you’re just plain wrong. Angry Birds is absolutely not a TD game. If you think it is, you’ve either never played it or have no idea what TD games are.

Db and Tom are right, angry birds is not a tower defence game, the clue is in the titlle. Angry birds has neither TOWER building nor DEFENSE.
    Great game but wrong genre

Well, tower defense games does not have to be the words TOWER or DEFENSE.
Tower Defense is a concept or genre. A game in which you have to protect certain area like your community or castle, that is called tower defense game.

Lets see what others have to say about it,

You are correct, however it does require that you build stuff to defend other stuff. Angry birds has neither of these elements

Angry Birds doesn’t fall into the TD genre. Sentinel 1, 2, & 3 do though. The third should always be in a top 10 TD list. Well worth a try if you haven’t already.

Sorry Matt but your definition of a “Tower Defense” game basically contradicts what Angry Birds is since you do not protect neither a community or area. Angry Birds is categorized as a puzzle game due to the nature of the objective which is solving a solution to eliminate pigs (or set birds free as in Rio).

It’s a good list though I didn’t see FF: Crystal Defenders.

Nice list but angry birds really isn’t anywhere near the Tower Defense genre, it doesn’t contains any stationary defenses (aka towers) and doesn’t have attacking creeps that you defend against. Here’s a wikipedia link since you don’t seem to believe what people here tell you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_defense

GeoDefense is one of the best tower defense games ever (imho) but clearly not for iPad.

Plants vs Zombie is not really a typical TD, but it can count as a hybrid, similar to titles like “Knight Defense” (loveing it) or Dungeon Defenders.

For those that can’t get enough of TD: iBomber Def and Starfall are furtheriPad TD titles.

Angry birds is a TD game (Tower Destruction). Now if the Pigs could march toward the bird’s nest.. And the birds threw eggs at them to stop them.. Then it would be Defense.

Wow…people on the Internet are sooooooooo bee-atchy. It’s good to have a list…who cares if Angry Birds isn’t tower defense (it actually falls in the category of “physics strategy,” or just “physics,” which is defined as a game which uses a physics engine within which the player attempts to pursue some objective. Both are subcategories of “strategy,” although what they’re filed under is less importanto delecto than whether they’re fun or not. And anyone cranky enough to lambast someone for writing a list of games definitely needs more fin in their lives.

    simple to fix this.
remove angry birds (very strange inclusion – space invaders is closer to the td genre), and in second place put sentinel 3 – the best td game imo and awarded such bu quite a few sites.

Well maybe the author thinks all what has to do with defense is tower defense. Lets add doom, wolfenstein and 1000 others as per this definition… Is there a game out there without the need to defense…

    what a moronic list.

let’s define a list of tower defense games for ipad:

first of all, let’s list a few games that DON’T HAVE IPAD VERSIONS (iphone games run in a tiny little part of the ipad screen unless you have paid-for hacks on your jailbroken ipad, and even then aren’t as good as native ipad apps).

ah, now at the top of the list are two games that are NOT TOWER DEFENSE GAMES. angry birds failed because you’re not defending, you’re attacking. so it’s offense, not defense. and in angry birds you are not building towers. Technically speaking I would say zombies vs is not tower defense either since it doesn’t actually have towers, and the baddies don’t follow anything but simple linear paths (where other tower defense games require a different type of strategy due to the ai of the bad guys… there is virtually no AI in the bad guys in zombies vs).

Now SKIP SOME OF THE BEST GAMES that actually are both tower defense and for the ipad.

Instead PUT IN SOME OF THE WORST GAMES that meet the criteria.

There are only one or two games there worth mentioning. The rest dont’ meet criteria you defined in your article’s title or are simply not very good games.

KindgdomRush HD is probably the best tower defense game out there and it’s not even on the list. It’s supposed to be at #1 and stay there until the sequel comes in a month with tons of new addictions.
